Statistics South Africa has recently released unemployment stats for South Africa for the fourth quarter of 2023. What is striking is the sloping of unemployment with the increase in lack of higher education.
One in ten of graduates is unemployed, while the the odds are two in ten for those who have some other form of higher education e.g. certificate or diploma. When it comes to those who only made matric or grade 12, the odds are not as good at three in nine, but this is better than the highest unemployment rate among those without matric where for every five 2 are not employed.
Put simply, the more educated you are the more likely you are to get employment and faster than those less educated.
